CookFrom Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information CookFrom handles, why, and how it is stored and shared. CookFrom is published as part of HomeLabCore. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@homelabcore.dev.

What CookFrom is

CookFrom is a cooking assistant. It helps you cook from ingredients you already have by letting you choose ingredients or recognize them from a photo, generating AI-assisted recipes, and keeping features such as a pantry/inventory, a shopping list, favorites, recipe history, and dietary settings.

To provide the AI features, CookFrom sends some of your information to backend and AI services. The rest of this policy describes what that involves.

Information you provide

CookFrom works with information you enter or generate while using the app, including:

• Ingredient selections — the ingredients you choose when asking for a recipe.
• Recipes and saved preferences — recipes you generate, edit, or save as favorites, along with your recipe history and app settings.
• Pantry / inventory information — items you record as being in your kitchen.
• Shopping-list information — items you add to your shopping list.
• Dietary preferences, allergies, dislikes and cooking-equipment settings — the constraints you set so recipes are drafted with them in mind.
• Photos submitted for ingredient recognition — images you choose to send so the app can identify ingredients in them.
• AI recipe requests — the request you send when you ask CookFrom to generate or refine a recipe, which includes the relevant details above.

You do not need to create an account to use CookFrom's core features.

Purpose of processing

Information is processed to provide the features you use, specifically to:

• generate and refine recipes based on your ingredients and preferences;
• recognize ingredients from photos you submit;
• maintain your pantry, shopping list, favorites, recipe history, and settings;
• adjust recipes for servings and let you edit them;
• verify subscription purchases and manage Pro or promotional entitlements;
• diagnose errors and keep the app working.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, and CookFrom does not include third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

AI processing

When you use a feature that relies on AI — generating or refining a recipe, or recognizing ingredients from a photo — the information needed for that request is sent to AI service providers that process it on our behalf and return a result.

This can include your ingredient selections, dietary preferences, allergies, dislikes, cooking-equipment settings, the text of your request, and any photo you submitted for ingredient recognition. AI-generated results may not always be accurate; you are responsible for checking that a recipe is safe and suitable for you, particularly regarding allergies.

Backend processing

CookFrom uses backend services operated for HomeLabCore to route AI requests, apply usage limits, verify subscriptions, and manage entitlements. Requests to these services include the data described above along with technical information such as your device's IP address and app version, which are used to operate and secure the service.

Local device storage

Much of your information — such as your pantry, shopping list, favorites, recipe history, and preferences — is stored on your device so the app works and keeps your data between sessions. Information stored only on your device is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. This does not by itself delete information already processed by backend or AI services.

Subscriptions & purchase verification

CookFrom Pro is sold as a subscription through Google Play. When you subscribe, Google Play provides a purchase token that CookFrom sends to its backend to verify the purchase and confirm your subscription status.

Payment information itself — such as your card details — is handled by Google Play and is not collected or received by CookFrom.

Pro entitlement & installation identifier

To manage access to Pro and to promotional entitlements, CookFrom uses:

• Promo / Pro entitlement data — records of whether your installation currently has Pro access or a promotional grant, and related timestamps.
• An installation identifier — an identifier generated for your app installation and used to associate entitlements with that installation. It is not your name and is not taken from device advertising identifiers.

This information is used to grant the access you are entitled to and to prevent abuse of usage limits and promotions.

Data sharing

CookFrom does not sell your information. Information is shared only with service providers, and only where required to provide the app's functionality, including:

• AI service providers that process recipe requests and ingredient-recognition photos;
• infrastructure and hosting providers that run the backend services;
• Google Play, for subscription purchase and verification.

These providers process information on our behalf for those purposes. Information may also be disclosed if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users or of HomeLabCore.

Security

Connections between the app and backend services use encryption in transit. We apply access controls and other reasonable measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Retention

Information stored on your device remains until you remove it or uninstall the app. Backend records — such as entitlement data and logs used for operating and securing the service, and limited request data — are retained only as long as needed for those purposes and are then deleted or aggregated. Photos submitted for ingredient recognition are used to process your request and are not retained for longer than needed to provide and troubleshoot that feature.

Deletion

You can delete information stored on your device by clearing the app's data or uninstalling CookFrom. To request deletion of information associated with your installation identifier or subscription that is held by our backend, contact privacy@homelabcore.dev. We may need to keep certain records where required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Children's privacy

CookFrom is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

International processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the one you live in, including outside your region. Where this happens, we rely on service providers that offer appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as CookFrom changes. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may also be noted in the app or on this page.
